We sent our 3D out today. It was sent to New York, the Makerbot head quarters. The reason behind the title is because our learning target 2 of Cyborg is now resting in peace. Now we will not get to print the rest of our test hand to prove to e-Nable that we can print and put together a hand. Sad day. well actually it is just one less thing to get done before the end of school and that is in 9 days.
Today we can't print because we are still trying to find out why are printer is printing sideways. Sometimes it prints to the left but mostly tilted to the right. I think that some explanations that could have caused this is someone bumping the printer while it was printing one day, or maybe printing some bad program. This also could be due to the extruder off balance or off its track. This picture if of our palm that printed sideways. It is tilted away from my hand as you see in the picture. The next picture is all the pieces that we have printed so far. There are finger phalanges, finger tips, a bad palm, and many kinds of pins. Yesterday our teacher posted the stats of our printer and we have completed 31 out of 37 prints. Our total printing hours have been 36 hours 9 minutes and 41 seconds. That's a lot of printing time for not using it that much until about two weeks ago. On our day off printing we went on a virtual field trip and learned about Goddard space lab. We learned about the latest rover updates. Happy space day:)
Today when we walked into class and we saw a mess of plastic sitting on the eighth graders paper. It was supposed to be a gauntlet. Right now it looks like a pig pile of black plastic. Our smart extruder was to close to our build plate. the class before us trouble shooted and found a video that showed us how to move the smart extruder. We had to move the extruder .08mm up on the Z axis. Our second problem today was that we couldn't get the file to download onto the printer. We tried over and over again and then looked some stuff up and came to a conclusion that we needed to try a new hard drive. We tried the new hard drive and it worked right away.
Today our squad has many jobs to do and I decided to work on my blog. Carley is looking up random stuff on the internet and Autumn and Brody are looking at the script that Brody made for a green screen play. While we were about to download a file we found a problem we forgot to write down our settings. But the website is a big help when it comes to knowing the pieces we are printing and the settings such as rafts, fillament and shells. We have to listen to the printer make annoying sounds while we do our work. It keeps just buzzing and sounds like characters off of star wars.
Dear e-NABLE community…
We are the CW 6th grade STEM group. We decided to help out the e-NABLE community after one of our 8th grade classmates brought in an article about a boy who was born without fingers on his left hand and through e-NABLE, received a 3D printed hand. We all found it very interesting and so our teacher decided to ask for a 3D printer. A short while after, we got our 3D printer donated to us by a local sand company. Our goal throughout this process is to remember that it’s more important to help others rather than ourselves. We hope that we can make a difference in somebody’s life. We take for granted being able to hold a cup or a pencil, while some people can’t even do that, and we hope to give others that opportunity. Thank you. CW STEM crew, over and out. This was our letter to join the e-Nable community. This is it for today. Maggie over and out. Today my class and I have began printing our test hand for the e-Nable community. Our hand is black and we have printed one finger tip and are in the process of printing the last four. e-Nable is a online community that connects two strangers that may live across the country from each other. One of these people has a 3D printer and is able to print a hand. I hope that this person that our class connects with appreciates this as much as we would if we didn't have a hand our even a arm. Sometimes we don't even think about the people that are not able to write or shake someones hand. I wish that I could feel like that for a day or two and see what these people go through.
